Wavy Hair Help!?

My hair is naturally wavy and I straighten it in the mornings. When I scrunch it and let it air dry, they are tight, frizzy kinky waves. I want loose, natural big curl waves... Is there anyway I could do this with "scrunching"? Maybe not scrunch it as much? HELP!

Wavy Hair Help!?

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly/wavy hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your wavy hair- be happy for life!

-Use a shampoo low in sulfates (sodium laureth sulfate, sodum lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, etc.) or one that contains none at all such as Devacurl's no poo. Some health food store have organic shampoos with no sulfates also. Sulfates dry out wavy/curly hair- it can be found in laundry detergent!!

- Wet hair under a gentle shower. Take a tablespoon of conditioner and using your fingers, lightly coat your hair from the ends to the midshaft. This hair has been around longer than the hair at the roots and needs more lubrication. The conditioner protects the hair by not allowing shampoo to penetrate and dehydrate the shaft.

- If you're using shampoo, squeeze a half teaspoon (no more) onto your fingertips and apply it gently to the scalp and roots only. Don't use your nails. Start at the forehead and work around the scalp, then rinse thoroughly. The shampoo will be gentler for your hair and easier to distribute if you dilute it with an ounce or so of water.

- Add a half teaspoon of conditioner to your hair and work it through with your fingers. Comb out tangles with a wide tooth comb, or even better your fingers. Then rinse quickly with cool/cold water, for just a few seconds. No you're ready to blot-dry your hair.

- Apply gel or other products to sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair. Make sure the gel or other product is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later. Then use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!

- Experiment with different products because everyone's hair is different. I would reccomend a light hold gel and a leave in cream or condtioner. Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore).

- The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Moisturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and Herbal Essences Totally Twisted, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. You may be able to get away with just putting a leave-in cream in your hair.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes a weeks or two to begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally wavy hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!
