Am I Blowdrying My Hair wrong?

Ok so I have really curly, frizzy multi-racial hair. My stylist suggested I blowdry my hair b4 I use a flat iron cuz it would make it easier to straighten. So i bought a big paddlebrush, and a blowdryer. I blew it out when it was dry (my mom said i should), put some Garnie Fructise Sleek n Shine serum in it and then flat ironed it. Problem is it came out really poofy. It looked great but it wouldnt move cuz it was so poofy n stiff. What am I doing wrong?!

Oh btw product suggestions would help great!

blow dry it using a straightening cream, balm, etc when wet. Then on dry hair use a hot iron protection spray, i use matrix straight looks spray. sleek and shine is great for finishing your hair after straightening but i wouldn,t use it with my straighteners as it goes crispy. the best straightening cream i used was gum going straight or gum leave in blow dry milk.

I have curly hair too. I always blow dry my hair right after I wash it. It does make it easier to straighten it. Try using the sleek and shine shampoo and conditioner too.

Don't put ANYTHING - let the natural oils of your hair work.

Hmm i wouldn't use a paddlebrush, it's lifting your roots up and the heat is sort of 'setting' them in place. try using a round brush with natural bristles and don't brush your hair up at your roots when drying. Put the brush under your hair and comb your hair from underneath, using the hairdryer to push the brush downwards. The natural bristles should reduce frizz and the different brush should stop the hair from going 'poofy'

maybe you should use hair products made especially for people of color. try using SoftSheen-Carson's smoothing balm.

My hair is curly. Ive spent years trying to straighten it. What I do is shampoo it with a straightening shampoo, brush it out, blow dry it without a hair brush, and then straighten it with a hot iron in different sections. Now it stays straight all day!!

HOW ARE YOU BLOWDRYING YOUR HAIR WRONG?

FROM ......................................

Since you have curly and fizzy hair, I suggest you blow dry your hair immediately after wash. However, leave your hair a little wet to avoid overdrying it. Apply some hair moisturising lotion on them and leave the the balance wetness of your hair to dry naturally.

When you blow dry it use a heat styling spray. I use TRESemme Tressemme oooh la la. It is called Instant heat tamer and it's about 4 dollars at walmart. I spray it on my hair before I blow dry and then I make sure my roots are mostly dry and then I spray it on my dry hair again before I run the flat iron over it. When I am finished I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and just run it over my hair and wha la It is done. Also when I dry my hair I use a big round brush with boar hair bristles. Sometimes I spray the heat tamer on the brush and start at my roots when I flat iron it and run it down my hair with the iron behind it. It keeps from getting too much on your hair and keeps it from kinking up. I used to use a paddle brush, but it is no good for me. I have really curly and frizzy hair too! Also if let your hair dry naturally it cuts down on the frizz. And having a good flat iron works better than a $20 walmart one. I paid 100 for mine and it works really well.

Wear your hair in a towel for a while to absorb as much water as possible. Use a wide tooth comb and comb hair into place. Using the paddle brush, hold the dryer above your head and dry straight down while brushing down. Don't hold the brush under your hair (this create volume). Take your time drying. Drying to fast and wildly creates frizz. When all dry then use flat iron. Apply Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum.
