How Do I Make My Horse's Hair Grow Faster?

I have a grey paint/pinto and she has black thick hair. I know how to make her tail grow faster by braiding the bottom to make it heavier and not break as much and I has really worked. But then I tried it to her forlock because it was short and she was rubbing it off. I left the braid in for a day, took it out the next and two big chunks of hair came out. Now that showing season is coming around and her fore-lock isn't growing at all! I need some help out there, this is the only down side to my cute little horsie and I can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I did hear that something like brushing their hair can stimulate its growth or something like that but I'm not sure. Can anyone give me some insight here?

The first thing I would do is NOT brush your horse's hair every day. Brushing your horses hair is fine maybe once every two or three days, but brushing too much can often result in breaking the hair and pulling it out, rather than stimulating it to grow faster. Also, try to avoid turning your horse out with its mane, tail, or forelock braided. Often the hair will get caught on fencing, brush, or other objects that could tear it out.

A friend of mine would put an Indian remedy called Neem Oil on her horse's hair, and it seemed to help, but I'm not sure where she got it and I've since moved barns and don't keep in contact with her anymore. I've heard that almond oil works well also.

One fourth a clove of garlic (finely chopped) in your horse's feed should help to keep it shiny, and I've heard that it also helps it to grow though it may just be a rumor.

There is also a brand of shampoo from Garnier Fructice that I put on my Quarter Horse gelding's mane and tail when I got him (his former owner had trimmed his mane and tail very very short). It seemed to help it grow faster, in only one month his mane went from about four inches long to about seven inches. The shampoo and conditioner is called Garnier Fructice Long %26amp; Strong, and you should be able to get it from your local wal-mart or other department store.

I hope I helped, good luck with showing this year. :)

Alot of people swear by MTG,

You cannot make its hair grow any faster no matter what you do...........

I don't know about making her forelock grow any faster, however perhaps conditioning it and brushing it routinely will help strengthen and stimulate it.

If this, or anything else, doesn't work in time for showing, and her forelock is still ratty/disfunctional, perhaps just incorperating it into her shaved bridle path would work. I don't know how bad it is, but if it falling apart, shaving might be the solution to let the hair grow back fresh later.

The more you brush it the thinner it will get. Ditto to plaiting it!

The forelock is often thin and slow growing and I have never found anything other than time cures it. When I had driving horses I used to 'borrow' a little extra hair from a matching mane or tail and fix it under the forelock for a show.

I would recommend getting some Shapely's MTG (Mane-Tail-Groom) and follow the directions on the bottle. Just clean the forelock and "scalp" (crest) with a sponge in warm water with a squirt of baby oil in the water. If the forelock does get tangled use your fingers to pick out each hair instead of brushing or combing it. If the follicles of the forelock are itchy spray on a mixture of Listerine and Avon skin so soft (50/50) on the follicle itself not the actual forelock to kill anything that might be making it itchy and to condition the scalp. Just give it some time and try not to mess with it too much and it should grow. If it doesn閳ユ獩 grow in a few months sadly your pony might be going thin in at area.

Don't brush it. I don't brush my horse's mane unless they are tangled. Brushing breaks the hair.

I also use MTG every time I'm at the barn, on both of their manes. My horse's mane has grown about 4 inches and doubled in thickness in the 3 months I've been using it regularly.

It works for a bunch of other things too.

A product called M.T.G. by Shapley's. It's so good, humans use it on themselves.

Has such a following the company has expanded it's line to include people products. I'll tell you right up front that there's an issue with the odor.

You'd think that working around horses, there wouldn't be many finicky noses. It's NOT an unpleasant smell, kind of bacony-barbeque-y. I've used it on my mare who's a dedicated itch scratcher, mane stands up like a zebras' from being rubbed off.

Got myself a bottle of Shapley's; itch stopped; hair is growing!

It was invented by a barber back in the 1920's-30's and it's still here 'cuz it works. Read directions and follow them. Good luck.

The only thing that I have found to work is good old Biotin added into the feeds - this promotes hair growth and hoof health and we use it for my daughter's pony who suffers with sweet itch and was constantly scratching his mane and tail off.

Also you can add oil to the feed for a good shine.

Brushing it won't help - it will just cause more breakage.

yes, MTG works like a miracle.........

I don't think there is a way, like you can't make human hair grow faster. Though brushing it and taking good care of the horse is the right key.
