How do I get my hair to not look like this?

Every time I get my hair cut, I always get really annoyed with it in the back, because it always either sticks up or it looks really awkward. I mean, It's no big deal when I grow it out, but it just annoys me right after when I get it cut. Even if I put gel on it, it just doesn't stay down and it like hovers above my head, making it look even more stupid.

Does anyone know what I should do the next time I get a haircut or is my asian hair too stiff to style it in those ways?

Get it cut shorter in the back. Like ask for more hair on top and not in the back. Getting a different cut might solve a lot... or else you just have an unfortunate cowlick.

And take pictures and tell your hairstylist what you want and don't want, specifically!
