I keep getting a GIANT knot in my hair! It's more matted than a knot. I brush it and use $20 shampoo and conditioner, leave in conditioner too. This is new. I always had normal, pretty hair but suddenly it is just matted underneath in the back...all of it. I thought I was going to have to cut it all of the other morning cause it was so big. Why is this happening all of a sudden???

I had the exact same problem. No one understood the magnitude of the knot I was getting in my hair. I asked around and was told to braid my hair before bed, or to brush it often...I was. I was doing all of that...no matter. Sounds like you are in the same boat. What happened to me was I had gotten my hair cut by someone other than the girl who normally does it. I got my hair thinned out when I saw the other stylist. When I went back to my normal girl and asked her about the knot she was baffled until she realized I had my hair thinned out. She said that when you get your hair thinned there are a bunch of short hairs underneath that get tangled really easy. So if you got a lot of it thinned a lot of it gets tangled leading to matted hair. Wow I know how to make a short story long...lol! Sounded to me like maybe you had the same problem. The girl who does my hair told me to NEVER get my hair thinned again, no matter how long it takes to dry it...an hour.

I am no longer getting the knot in my hair. It took a couple of months for the hairs to grow long enough. Until then just brush your hair often. In between brushings I was running my fingers through underneath in the back. It seemed to help some. Just be patient. This too shall pass! Report It

what you can do is before you go to bed you can put it in a bun or make a braid in the back that happenes to me sometimes and i thought the same thing but i just kept working with it or you can go to a stylist and ask them what you can do:)

It might happen while you sleep. Try sleeping with your hair in a low ponytail (not a bun or down). Brush it as soon as you get up and before going to bed. That should do it...and you won't even need the expensive products.
If that doesn't help, it might be the wind. If you do go anywhere really windy, don't leave your hair down.

When that happened to me it was because I had split ends and I was dying my hair too much. I would first use a deep conditioner and leave it in and brush my hair while in the shower with the conditioner in it. If that doesn't work you can cut your hair, maybe not all of it, but some of it to get rid of split ends to make it easier. Then try conditioning again. That's how I dealt with it.
