There is nothing you can use to make his coat long. Coat length is genetic. If he came from long coated or plush coated lines then he will have a long coat, if he didn't then most likely he will not.

Unless your Shepherd had long-haired parents, then there's no way to MAKE a dog's hair grow. Accept your Shepherd for the dog he is, and don't worry about the length of his fur.

What about a huskey..or malamute. I would go with a Malamute, thier fur coat is extremly dense and long, that would take care of your long hair for sure! It would also keep the size in, Malamutes are fairly big dogs and of immense power, they can pull heavy loads easily. Definately go with a Malamute I think they would turn out to be beautiful dogs!
